Follow these steps to make crispy chicken wings coated in a thick, sweet, and tangy honey orange glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  2. Toss the chicken wings with vegetable oil, salt, and pepper. Arrange them in a single layer on the wire rack.
  3. Bake the wings for 40 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  4. While the wings bake, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan, combine honey, orange juice, soy sauce, orange zest, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry.
  7. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce while whisking constantly. Continue to cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens significantly and becomes sticky. Remove from heat.
  8. Once the wings are cooked, place them in a large bowl. Pour about two-thirds of the warm glaze over the wings. Toss gently until every wing is fully coated.
  9. Serve immediately with any remaining glaze on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra crispy wings, you can deep fry them instead of baking, cooking at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • If you prefer an air fryer method, cook wings at 380°F (195°C) for 20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • You can substitute maple syrup for half of the honey in the glaze for a different sweetness profile.
