Make this easy, one-bowl chocolate banana bread for a truly moist and rich treat perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed very ripe bananas (about 3-4 bananas)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Add the melted butter, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Stir in the mashed bananas until they are incorporated into the batter.
  5. Fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips over the top.
  7. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs attached.
  8. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before carefully turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use bananas that are heavily spotted or almost black for the best moisture and flavor.
  • For extra fudgy results, use a combination of cocoa powder and melted dark chocolate in the batter.
  • If the top browns too quickly during baking, loosely tent the loaf with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes.
