Make a refreshing homemade iced tea blending sweet strawberries and tart lemon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags (or 2 tablespoons loose leaf tea)
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 3 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup cold water (for steeping)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and whole strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat.
  2. Add the tea bags or loose leaf tea to the hot water. Steep for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags or strain out loose leaves.
  3. While the tea is steeping, combine the sliced strawberries and sugar in a small bowl. Gently mash the strawberries to release their juices.
  4. Pour the hot tea into a heat-safe pitcher. Stir in the mashed strawberries and sugar mixture until the sugar dissolves completely.
  5. Add the 1 cup of cold water and the fresh lemon juice to the pitcher. Stir well.
  6. Chill the tea mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until completely cold.
  7. To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled tea over the ice. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and a whole strawberry.

Notes

  • For a stronger strawberry flavor, let the mashed strawberries infuse in the hot tea for an extra 10 minutes before straining or removing tea bags.
  • Use green tea instead of black tea for a lighter flavor profile. Adjust steeping time to 3 minutes if using green tea.
  • If you prefer a less sweet tea, start with 1/4 cup of sugar and add more after chilling.
