Make a layered, sweet, and strong iced caramel macchiato at home using this simple recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 2 shots espresso (or 1/4 cup very strong brewed coffee)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (for drizzle)
  • Optional: Extra caramel sauce for mixing into milk

Instructions

  1. If using strong brewed coffee, let it cool slightly. If making espresso, pull two shots.
  2. Pour the vanilla syrup into the bottom of a tall glass.
  3. Add the milk to the glass over the syrup.
  4. Fill the glass almost to the top with ice cubes.
  5. Slowly pour the espresso shots over the ice and milk. Pouring over the back of a spoon can help maintain the layers.
  6. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top of the drink in a crosshatch pattern for the classic look.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free option, use almond, soy, or oat milk.
  • If you prefer a sweeter drink throughout, mix one tablespoon of caramel sauce into the milk before adding ice.
  • To make a quick caramel drizzle, heat 1/4 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons butter, and 2 tablespoons heavy cream until smooth. Cool before using.
