Follow these steps to make sticky, flavorful honey garlic chicken wings baked in your oven. This recipe avoids frying and yields a sweet and savory glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top of the foil.
  2. Pat the chicken wings very dry using paper towels. This helps them crisp.
  3. In a bowl, toss the wings with salt, pepper, and garlic powder until coated.
  4. Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer on the wire rack.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes.
  6. While the wings bake, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, ketchup, rice vinegar, and ginger.
  7. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
  8. After the initial 25 minutes of baking, remove the wings from the oven.
  9. Brush half of the honey garlic sauce over all sides of the wings.
  10. Return the wings to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  11. Remove the wings again. Brush with the remaining sauce.
  12. Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius). Return the wings to the oven for a final 5 to 8 minutes to caramelize the glaze until sticky.
  13. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly dust the dried wings with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch before seasoning.
  • If you prefer a thinner glaze, reduce the simmering time for the sauce slightly.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce if you want to control the salt content.
