Ingredients
Scale
1 pound sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup beef broth
1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Season the steak cubes with salt and pepper.
Heat the olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until browned. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter to the skillet. Once melted, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
Pour in the beef broth and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Stir in the uncooked rice and Italian seasoning.
Add the water to the skillet and bring the mixture to a boil.
Once boiling, cover the skillet tightly with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
After 15 minutes, remove the skillet from the heat. Gently stir the cooked rice. Return the seared steak pieces to the skillet, nestling them into the rice.
Cover the skillet again and let it stand off the heat for 5 minutes to allow the steak to finish cooking and the rice to absorb remaining liquid.
Garnish with fresh parsley before serving directly from the skillet.
Notes
For medium-rare steak, cook the cubes for about 2 minutes per side during searing. Adjust cooking time for your preferred doneness.
You can add 1 cup of frozen peas or chopped mushrooms along with the rice in step 4 for extra vegetables.
Use chicken broth instead of beef broth if you prefer a milder flavor.
