A simple recipe to recreate the classic mint vanilla milkshake flavor at home, complete with homemade mint whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup crème de menthe syrup (or 1 teaspoon mint extract plus 1 drop green food coloring)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for topping)
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract (for topping)
  • 1 drop green food coloring (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mint whipped cream: In a chilled bowl, combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, peppermint extract, and green food coloring.
  2. Beat the cream mixture with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Set aside in the refrigerator.
  3. Combine the softened vanilla ice cream, whole milk, crème de menthe syrup (or extract/coloring mix), and vanilla extract in a blender.
  4. Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth and thick. Add a splash more milk if the mixture is too thick to blend.
  5. Pour the shake mixture into two tall glasses.
  6. Top each shake generously with the prepared mint whipped cream.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a thicker shake, use less milk or add a few extra scoops of ice cream.
  • If you do not have crème de menthe syrup, use pure mint extract sparingly, as it is strong.
  • Use high-quality vanilla ice cream for the best flavor base.
