Ingredients
Scale
8 cups bread cubes
1 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
4 eggs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
For the Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2-3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Arrange bread cubes in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, eggs, granulated sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt.
Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes.
Sprinkle with chopped pecans, if using.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown.
While the casserole bakes, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
Let the casserole cool slightly before drizzling with the glaze.
Serve warm and enjoy the celebration!
Notes
For a richer flavor, use challah or brioche bread.
If you don’t have pecans, walnuts are a great substitute.
Make sure the bread is slightly stale for the best texture.
