A simple recipe for soft, chewy, buttery sugar cookies decorated with festive Christmas sprinkles. This recipe uses a drop style for easy preparation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup Christmas sprinkles (red, green, white jimmies, shapes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the Christmas sprinkles until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers should still look soft.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a slightly flatter cookie, gently press the tops of the dough balls with the bottom of a glass before baking.
  • You can add 1/4 cup of extra sprinkles on top of each dough ball before baking for a more colorful appearance.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
