Make the classic homemade Chex Party Mix in your oven. This recipe delivers the perfectly seasoned, crunchy snack mix you remember, ideal for parties, game days, or any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 cups Chex cereal (use a mix of Rice Chex and Corn Chex for best results)
  • 1 cup pretzel twists
  • 1 cup bagel chips
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (pecans, almonds, or peanuts)
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a very large bowl, combine the Chex cereal, pretzels, bagel chips, and nuts. Set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter.
  4. Remove the butter from the heat. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and paprika until well combined. This creates your best Chex Mix seasoning.
  5. Slowly pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture in the large bowl. Gently stir until all the cereal and additions are lightly and evenly coated.
  6. Spread the coated mix onto two large, rimmed baking sheets. Do not overlap the mix too much; spread it in a thin layer for maximum crunch.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the sheets from the oven and gently stir the mix on each sheet.
  8. Return the sheets to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the snack mix cool completely on the baking sheets. The mix will become crispier as it cools.
  10. Once cool, break up any clumps and store your addictive snack mix in an airtight container.

Notes

  • For the crunchiest result, bake low and slow, and do not skip the stirring step halfway through baking.
  • You can substitute some of the Chex cereal with other crunchy items like Cheerios or rye chips.
  • This recipe is a fantastic make ahead party snack; it stays fresh for up to one week.
