This foolproof cherry dump cake recipe uses only three ingredients: cherry pie filling, dry cake mix, and butter. It requires no mixing and bakes into a warm, gooey dessert perfect for potlucks or quick weeknight treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of cherry pie filling into the prepared baking dish. Spread the filling evenly across the bottom.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the cherry pie filling layer. Do not mix the layers.
  4. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix layer.
  5. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cherry filling is bubbly around the edges.
  6. Let the cake cool slightly before serving warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute the yellow cake mix with white, butter, or even chocolate cake mix for a chocolate cherry dump cake variation.
  • If you want a crispier topping, slice the cold butter into thin pats instead of melting it completely before drizzling.
  • Serve this warm cherry cake recipe immediately for the best gooey texture.
