Make this refreshing and nutrient-dense smoothie combining blueberries, fresh lemon, and chia seeds for a quick, healthy meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or water/coconut water)
  • 1/2 fresh lemon, juiced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/2 frozen banana (optional, for sweetness and thickness)
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional, adjust to taste)
  • 3-4 ice cubes (if using fresh blueberries)

Instructions

  1. Place the almond milk, lemon juice, chia seeds, frozen blueberries, and optional banana into your blender.
  2. Add the optional sweetener if you prefer a sweeter taste.
  3. Secure the lid and blend on high speed until completely smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides.
  4. If the smoothie is too thick, add liquid one tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. If the smoothie is too thin, add a few more frozen blueberries or ice cubes and blend again.
  6. Pour immediately into a glass and serve.

Notes

  • For a thicker smoothie bowl texture, reduce the liquid by 1/4 cup.
  • If you want to maximize the benefits of chia seeds, soak them in 2 tablespoons of water for 10 minutes before adding them to the blender; this creates a gel that blends smoothly.
  • Substitute almond milk with coconut water for added electrolytes or regular water for a lower-calorie option.
  • Add one scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder for a post-workout boost.
  • To balance the tartness of the lemon, increase the amount of banana or add 1/4 cup of frozen mango.
