Make your next gathering a hit with these juicy, savory BBQ Chicken Sliders served on soft Hawaiian rolls and topped with a crispy garlic-herb butter crust. This recipe is perfect for quick weeknight dinners or game day parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce (tangy or sweet)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 package (12 count) sweet Hawaiian slider rolls
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Monterey Jack or Cheddar blend)

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken breasts, BBQ sauce, and chicken broth into a slow cooker. Cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or until the chicken is tender enough to shred easily.
  2. Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir to coat it completely with the sauce. Keep warm on the ‘Keep Warm’ setting.
  3. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the package of slider rolls in half horizontally, keeping the rolls connected in one piece. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Spoon the saucy shredded chicken evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the chicken layer. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, dried parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create the garlic butter topping.
  6. Brush the entire top surface of the slider buns generously with the garlic butter mixture.
  7. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the rolls are golden brown and slightly crispy.
  8. Remove from the oven. Slice the sliders apart between the rolls. Serve immediately for a crowd-pleasing meal.

Notes

  • For a quicker stovetop method, simmer the chicken breasts in the BBQ sauce and broth until cooked through (about 20 minutes), then shred and proceed with the recipe.
  • Add thinly sliced red onion or a few pickle chips over the chicken before adding the top bun for extra crunch and tang.
  • If you do not have Hawaiian rolls, use any soft slider bun, but the sweetness of Hawaiian rolls pairs well with the smoky BBQ flavor.
