Ingredients
Scale
4 firm apples (like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter, cut into 4 pieces
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a small baking dish.
Wash the apples. Use an apple corer or a small knife to remove the core from the top of each apple, leaving about half an inch at the bottom intact so the filling stays inside.
In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.
Place the cored apples in the prepared baking dish.
Spoon the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly into the center cavity of each apple.
Place one small piece of butter on top of the filling in each apple.
Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish around the apples.
Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
Carefully remove the dish from the oven. Drizzle the vanilla extract over the warm apples before serving.
Notes
Serve these warm baked apples with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic dessert experience.
If you prefer a less sweet option, reduce the brown sugar to 2 tablespoons and use a sugar substitute if desired.
This recipe makes a great accompaniment to oatmeal for a warm breakfast treat.
