A simple recipe for cooking lean ground turkey burgers in the air fryer to achieve a juicy result without drying them out.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground turkey (93% lean or higher)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional, for moisture)
  • 4 whole-wheat or brioche buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese slices

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, gently combine the ground turkey with onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce if using. Do not overmix the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form them into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Press a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius) for 5 minutes.
  4. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with oil. Place the turkey patties in the basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not overlap. You may need to cook in batches.
  5. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes total, flipping the burgers halfway through the cooking time (around the 5 or 6-minute mark).
  6. Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; turkey is safe to eat when it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius).
  7. If adding cheese, place a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking.
  8. Remove the burgers from the air fryer and let them rest for 2 minutes before serving on buns with your preferred toppings.

Notes

  • For extra moisture, mix 1 tablespoon of finely grated onion into the meat mixture.
  • Do not press down on the burgers while they cook in the air fryer; this releases the juices.
  • If your air fryer runs hot, start checking the temperature at 9 minutes.
