Ingredients
Scale
2 large yellow onions
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
1 1/2 cups Panko breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
Cooking spray (oil-based)
Instructions
Slice the onions into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
Prepare the breading stations: In the first shallow bowl, place the flour. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In the third bowl, combine the Panko breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and paprika.
Dredge each onion ring first in the flour, shaking off excess. Dip the floured ring into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Finally, press the ring firmly into the Panko mixture to coat completely.
Preheat your air fryer to 380F (195C) for 5 minutes.
Lightly spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the breaded onion rings in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
Spray the tops of the onion rings generously with cooking spray.
Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping the rings halfway through the cooking time. Spray the second side lightly with cooking spray before flipping.
Continue cooking until the rings are golden brown and crispy.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Use yellow or Vidalia onions for the best flavor and structure.
For extra crispiness, chill the breaded rings on a wire rack in the freezer for 15 minutes before air frying.
If you need a gluten-free option, substitute the all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour blend and use gluten-free Panko breadcrumbs.
