Make crispy French toast sticks quickly in the air fryer with a simple cinnamon sugar coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices thick-cut bread (like brioche or Texas toast)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for batter)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Cut each slice of bread into three equal sticks.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon for the batter.
  3. In a separate small, shallow dish, mix the 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon for the coating.
  4. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Do not soak the bread.
  5. Place the dipped sticks in a single layer on a plate or tray.
  6. Lightly brush both sides of each stick with melted butter.
  7. Place the buttered sticks in the air fryer basket in a single layer, working in batches if necessary. Do not overcrowd the basket.
  8. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Immediately toss the hot sticks in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  10. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, spray the sticks lightly with cooking spray before the final minute of air frying.
  • You can use day-old bread; it holds its shape better when dipped.
  • If you want to make these ahead, prepare the sticks through step 4, place them on a baking sheet, and freeze them. Air fry directly from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the cook time.
